A former candidate for Idaho Governor is accused of kidnapping and murdering a 12-year-old girl in Colorado.

Meridian Police Officers arrested Steve Pankey, 69, in Meridian Tuesday morning. He was arrested for an outstanding homicide warrant out of Greeley, Colorado.

12-year-old Jonelle Matthews went missing in December 1984. Her body wasn't discovered until last summer at an oil site in Weld County.

Investigators had previously identified Pankey as a person of interest in the case.

Last year, Pankey told the CBS affiliate in Denver that he had nothing to do with her death.

Pankey is now being held in the Ada County Jail, awaiting extradition to Colorado.

This is a developing news story, we will continue to follow what happens in court.
